ABOUT LIZ

I work from subject matter I have observed in nature or in my personal life. I like to be reminded of seasons, light, and weather when creating art. I challenge myself with creating images that are both clearly recognizable, yet show the process of creation including marks, strokes and paper texture. I use color to slightly skew the degree of realism of my pieces. My style is very energetic, even when depicting a serene scene there is a sense of kinetic energy through brush strokes and color.

I enjoy painting scenes from nature such as landscapes, flowers and birds. My love for animals and my own pets is often the inspiration for many of my paintings as well. My favorite subject however is painting children’s portraits. It is a delicate balance to capture a child’s likeness without losing their innocent look. Children are so interesting because their faces really capture what they are experiencing in life at each moment. I have always loved watching my own children do every small task, and trying to get it on paper or in a photograph. I have been influenced by artists such as  Beatrix Potter, Tasha Tudor and Holly Hobbie. These artists have the ability to capture scenes of children, pets, landscapes and seasons in their own unique way.

I have a BS from Skidmore College and majored in art. My professional background is in publishing and graphic design. After being well established in the textbook publishing industry for 14 years, I decided to branch off to pursue and apply my own sensibilities to the world of teaching, and creating art. I have grown so much as an artist over the years, and I am excited to share my enthusiasm and techniques with others. I am also presently taking on commissions and illustration work. Please feel free to reach out for more information and pricing.
